About the Author
Lori Fulton is an Assistant Professor of teacher education at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. A former elementary teacher, she has been involved in the process of teacher change and professional development in the area of science for over 15 years. Lori received the NARST Outstanding Doctoral Research Award in 2013 for her work on writing in science.

Brian Campbell is a curriculum developer at the University of California, Berkeley where he focuses on creating instructional materials and professional development opportunities for science in elementary schools. He works with teachers and districts to refine the use of science notebooks in classrooms focusing on formative assessment and the connections to language arts. He enjoys learning especially from his two daughters.

I loved the way the author talks about using science notebooks and keeping a journal about the way her classroom used science notebooks. The one interesting thing about science notebooks is that they are used as tools for the students. The students learn more about themselves as they use their notebooks.

This is not the latest edition of this book

This is not a review, per se, but a note to the buyer to be aware that this entry is for the 2004 version of the Scott Foresman 3rd Grade Mathematics. The more recent edition was published in 2008. As far as I can tell, the versions are identical except for the ISBN number, and the statement on the front of the 2008 edition that it is the "Diamond Edition."

I ordered this book to help my children in reading
thought it was a great idea, but when I recieved it
they sent me a 2nd grade book, Not the 4th grade book
I ordered. Now they are making me pay shipping charges to send it back. It was NOT my fault they can't see 2nd or 4th grade.
VERY disappointed, still have NOT gotten my credit either!!!!!!!!

Sad, really

My son has used this system at his school for two years now, and it is no wonder our country is falling so far behind in math. I have tried to approach it with an open mind, and I can somewhat understand some of their methods, but it is not logically ordered. Also, a lot of the "lessons" seem like simply lessons on how to take a test, not how to do math. As parents, we've had to take on our son's math education ourselves, because this method is a failure. We use the books to guide him in what he needs to be practicing, but when it comes to showing his skills, it gets lost in trying to figure out what is being asked. My husband and I both have advanced degrees, and often when we read the directions on first grade math, we are utterly perplexed at what they are asking for. We teach him the usual methods for doing the actual math, then we spend twice the time helping him figure out what the convoluted instructions are asking. It's such a waste of time.

The curriculum overall is too much talk, too little practice. Why do our children need to learn five different short cuts for adding when they haven't even had a chance to practice one way to add? It is terribly confusing for kids. I've yet to meet a teacher, student, or parent that likes this curriculum.

enVision math is confusing and out of order

enVision books skip around from one thing to another and leave kids lost and confused. It never teaches basic concepts or facts, it is nothing but pretentiously labeled "mental math" and "shortcuts". The chapters are out of order and make no sense. What a waste of time!

Don;t waste your time or money on this "new math"

This "new math" is the one of the WORST systems I have ecountered as an educator. This company has "enticed" school districts all over the country to adopt this system when it hasn't been successfully piloted anywhere and has no corroborating data to support their math "theories". The textsbooks were dated "2009" LAST YEAR when we received them (in 2008). The textbooks are also full of spelling errors, mathematical errors, and the teacher texts and students texts differ not only in some content but even in the page numbers. It is confusing to students and kids I had that loved math before, were reduced to tears because of this curriculums confusing and ambiguous ways of "teaching".

If only we could turn back the clock and get our old math program back- FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST!
