Okay, but I prefer HSP

My daughter just finished HSP's first grade math book. At first, when I opened up this book, I thought it was very similar. But, as I flipped through it I knew I didn't like it. I couldn't figure out why. So, I started looking at both of them more closely and thinking about what I love about the HSP K, 1, and 2 books. I thought about what my daughter loved about her math book. She loved the game that was in every chapter (no game in this book). She liked the stories and information scattered in the book. I loved all of the review--an extra practice page, chapter test and then a cumulative review. I can't quite put my finer on it, but the formatting of the HSP book is also easier for me to look at. I think part of it may be that the colors in the Addison Wesley book are a little brighter. The HSP book is $10 cheaper even if you buy it new than this one. So, I'd recommend the HSP book over this one (ISBN# 0153412593) if you're going to be using this for homeschooling.
Just one more piece of information. This book is sufficient to cover first grade mathematics at home, but you may want some extra practice workbooks for weak areas.

Best math book yet!

This book is bright, engaging, and easy to follow. There is enough review to solidify concepts without becoming boring, and even a review/homework book one can order if you need more (we never did). After trying several different math book series, we will be sticking with Scott Foresman because of how much it drew my son in and made him excited about sitting down to do math. (And this is a boy who never sits!)
